NEWS: VOLCANIC ERUPTION IN LA PALMA
Volcanic Eruption in La Palma
By Coco Pérez and Piña Martínez
A volcanic eruption started on 19th September in the Canary Island of La Palma (Spain). Since then, the volcano of Cumbre Vieja continues expelling lava and ash into the air. The lava destroyed several villages, crops, and hundreds of homes. The lava reached the sea 10 days after the eruption, expanding the surface of the island.
Today, almost two months after the beginning of the eruption, the volcano is still active. Now, it is in a stability stage, but the experts do not know when the eruption will finish. The Spanish government has declared La Palma "a disaster zone" and the inhabitants will receive financial help to repair their homes. People are collaborating sending money, school tools, clothes and food to help the affected people.
